AN ACT TO PROHIBIT PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN FROM ATTENDING GUN SHOWS; TO PROVIDE FOR A EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD AGE REQUIREMENT FOR ATTENDANCE AT GUN SHOWS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) Any gun show operator, exhibitor or any other such person who operates a gun show who admits any person under the age of eighteen (18) into a gun show shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined not less than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) nor more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00). Any person under the age of eighteen (18) who attends a gun show shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined not less than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) nor more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
(2) Municipalities are authorized to limit the number of gun shows that may be held in their jurisdiction.
(3) For the purposes of this section, a "gun show" shall mean any exhibition of guns, rifles, pistols, sidearms, explosives, primitive weapons, or any type of firearm that is open to the public for free or requiring an entrance fee where such firearms are offered for sale, barter or trade.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
